Personal Trainer Certification - York Technical College

York Technical College and Legion will partner to offer a special dual enrollment Personal Trainer certificate program. Dual enrollment enables students to get a jump start on a college education by earning college credits while still in high school. Students are able to take dual enrollment classes to earn credit toward a future degree at any of our locations: our main campus in Rock Hill, the Chester Center, or Indian Land Center. We also offer a variety of online and hybrid courses. Many of our courses transfer to other two-year or four-year public institutions in South Carolina, but to verify, students can access transfer information at SC TRAC. Students who plan to transfer can learn more here.

Participants in the dual enrollment program at York Tech are entitled to all the programs and services provided to students at York Tech. This includes academic coaching and tutoring, clubs and organizations, disability services, computer lab facilities, and more. More information on the dual enrollment program at York Tech can be found here. Additionally, we offer an orientation session to help students prepare for the first day of class, and our Admissions Counselors are always available to help with any step of the process.

To be able to take a dual enrollment class, students must complete a YTC application and then be registered by YTC for the class BEFORE the semester starts. For district sponsored students, guidance counselors send a list of student course selections to their YTC Admissions Counselor.

To Apply:

To apply for dual enrollment, students simply need to complete two steps:

  1. Students must complete the Admissions Application and choose the “Dual Enrollment Student” option.

    1. To complete the application the following is required:  the student’s social security number, as well as parent information that includes the parent’s driver’s license number, the issue state and issue date of the parent’s license, and the driver’s license expiration date. This information is used to verify the student’s residency status, which determines tuition.

Note: When completing the school information, just put your high school name and not city and state.

The application process includes two steps I) Setting up an account and II) Completing an application. Upon completion of the application process, students will receive a confirmation email.

  1. Placement – if students don’t have a high school GPA of 3.0, they will need to take the free YTC placement test (unless they have ACT: 21 Verbal, 23 Math; SAT: 480 Reading, 570 Math, not older than 5 years. Your guidance counselor will send an official copy of their high school transcript to York Tech.

If a student needs to take the YTC placement test (Accuplacer), the student must have completed the application process and bring a picture ID with them to the Assessment Center. The Accuplacer is not a timed test. Please study for the Accuplacer. Practice tests are located at the following link, as well as in your favorite app store.
